Shattered Ice film screening and panel

Connecticut theatrical premiere of SHATTERED ICE, the award-winning hockey drama about a small-town New England teenage hockey player’s attempt to navigate high school life after his best friend dies by suicide. Film to be followed by a special panel discussion about the importance of mental health and wellness as seen through the prism of sport.
As the official opening night event of the 4th Annual Shoulder Check Showcase, the award-winning coming-of-age New England hockey drama Shattered Ice comes to Sacred Heart University Community Theatre for a special social impact screening presented in partnership with Shoulder Check and the #HT40 Foundation.
All ticket sale proceeds from this screening will be donated directly to Shoulder Check to support its mental health awareness and suicide prevention initiatives.
Inspired by real events, Shattered Ice is a powerful coming of age story about grief, friendship, mental health, and the importance of human connection and community in the world of young athletes.
This screening kicks off an impactful week centered around the mission of Shoulder Check: Reach Out. Check In. Make Contact.
Founded as an initiative of the #HT40 Foundation, Shoulder Check is dedicated to making kindness a contact sport—encouraging athletes, teammates, families, and communities to support one another through simple but meaningful acts of connection.
Following the screening, guests will experience a special panel discussion featuring voices from the worlds of hockey, mental health, and community leadership, exploring the film’s themes and the urgent importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
Shattered Ice has become the centerpiece of The Nehoiden Black Bears: Social Impact Series, a growing movement using film, sports, and storytelling to spark meaningful conversations around mental health across North America.
Since launching in 2025, the series has partnered with NHL organizations, mental health nonprofits, colleges, athletic departments, and leading sports brands, including the Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Montreal Canadiens, Bauer Hockey, Pure Hockey, The Hidden Opponent, Morgan’s Message, Mission 34, College Campuses, and many more.
“Our goal with the film is to raise awareness, tell a powerful story, and send a message to others that there is light at the end of the tunnel even in the darkest times. We are so happy to bring the movie to Fairfield, and be a part of the Shoulder Check community and their incredible showcase event.”
